Ode to Cookies

Waking up with nothing to do
So I help myself with a cookie or two.
It perks up a life that is going stale
And adds a few pounds on the weighing scale.
Butter cookies, pecan biscuits and shortbread
Help fight boredom and eternal dread.
Pretty, glossy plastic wraps of different hues
Drive away jailhouse blues.
Good companion to Dickens, Bronte and Dostoyevsky
Altogether I devour lustily.
For food for thought leads to thought of food,
One is good for the mind, the other the stomach does good.
