Citizen Cinema 2019: Filmlab

A 2-day incubation-styled program to expand the culture of questioning, researching, discussing and presenting media works that supports our Citizen Cinema program.
A safe platform for current practitioners and future content-makers to meet, share, explore ideas and works-in-progress.
Lab is free, spaces are limited.

Thank you for your interest in #citizencinema2019: filmlab. It runs on 2 days:

  • 31 Aug, 1000 – 1900

  • 7 Sept, 1000 – 1900

Applicants should be able to commit to both days, for consideration of attendance of the lab.

This program is an expansion of Freedom Film Festival Singapore’s Citizen Cinema, which was introduced in 2017.

Citizen Cinema is an open call that aims to showcase and foster the production of films which highlight social, cultural, political and environmental issues in Singapore, and is open to entries from established filmmakers, first-time filmmakers, students, video bloggers, and citizen journalists.

In 2019, we are introducing the #citizencinema2019: film lab program to fully integrate the culture of questioning, researching, discussing and presenting media works that support our initial aim. The lab will create a safe platform for current practitioners and future content-makers to expand and nourish a conscientious climate of information-sharing.

Citizen Cinema and Citizen Film Lab run as bi-annual programs. Participants who take part in this year’s lab, will be encouraged to develop a work for next year’s open call (Sept 2020). Non-film work and all works-in-progress will have fringe events to showcase the work.

We have been actively making sure the people we are collaborating with for the lab are extremely diverse and you have our word we are not just paying lip-service to this oft-thrown about term.

With this in mind, we suggest participants have a strong aim towards getting a work into development or continue their current process, with the support and platform that #citizencinema2019: film lab is committed to provide.

There will be follow-ups throughout the year, with practitioners in varied fields, leading up to next year’s open call.

We are committed to a thriving media climate, with plurality, sustainability and accountability.
