Abolition of the Internal Security Act (ISA). This is an important advocacy of Function 8. As a member of the civil society, we strongly advocate for the abolition of the ISA. It is a draconian piece of legislation which originate from the British colonial emergency rule. It is a law that was use time and again by the PAP government on its political opponents and dissidents. It is suspension of all laws to justify arbitrary detentions without trial for indefinite period. This law fly in the face of a society of modernity and a community which put great faith in the rule of law.
The video below was recorded on 2nd February 2013 at Hong Lim Park on the commemoration of the 50th anniversary of Operation Cold Store. This is the cry of those who believe in justice, democracy and human rights. From 1959 to 1990, more than 2600 people were detained under Singapore Internal Security Act.
